The visa classes in this component of migration program allow for family members overseas to be reunited with Australian citizens, permanent residents and eligible New Zealand citizens living in Australia. There are:

Partner migration 

• Migration to Australia as the spouse, prospective spouse (fiancé(e)) or independent partner of Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.

Child migration 

• Migration to Australia as the dependent child, orphan relative or adopted child of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.

Parent migration 

• Migration to Australia as the parent of a child in Australia, who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. Parents can apply under the Contributory Parent (Migrant) Subclass 143 visa or the Contributory Aged Parent (Residence) Subclass 864 visa where the sponsor pays a significantly higher second visa application charge as a contribution to their parents ongoing health costs.

Other Family migration

• The aged dependent relatives, remaining relatives and carers visa have been permanently closed since 2 June 2014.
